Besia Michelle Grosman // Layers of Memory 

Our reliance on memories that are stored digitally removes our responsibility to remember. I feel the need to see the depth, and sense the memories anew.

A memory is our inner anchor, the stock of our personality connected to the environment. The work of the British artist Rachel Whiteread illustrate all this and more. The artist way of looking at spaces from a person private space and turning them into memory preservation patterns, made me look at rented apartments where tenants change every certain period the same. A new memory is created between the peeling and repainted walls. My collection inspired by human memories and the importance of our memories. The collection includes tailored men clothing, where I explore the tension between memory and time. I transfer the design perspective of my collection by structures, volume and layers alongside disassembly and peeling. From all this I created original patterns handmade printed on leather, wool and cotton, that reflect the peeled walls next to the white walls and the memories hidden beneath them.
