Shavit Lekach // Eye-popping
My mom grew up in a Kibbutz. The kibbutz ideology advocated equality, unity, simplicity, and humility expressed in all life aspects, especially in clothing. Aesthetics had no meaning and coquetry was considered eye-popping. The house where I grew up, on the other hand, was characterized by a Maximalism, fantastic, multi-detailed and kitschy aesthetic.
In the project I engage with these gaps-
Between Functionality- and pointless ornamentation.
Between the colors of the sepia - and the bold colors
Between the desire for uniformity - and the multiplicity of details .
In the collection I was inspired by pattern and fabrics from the 50s and 60s of the kibbutz - cotton fabrics and knitwear, plaids and stripes, khaki and sepia colors. on the other hand - colorful textiles with many details and layers, combining materials and techniques such as embroidery, knitting, collage and stone inlay.

שביט לקח // מְנַקֵּר עֵינַיִם
״גדלתי לבית של אסתטיקה משונה, אך עבורי היא הייתה לגמרי רגילה.
בגיל מסוים הבנתי שלא לכל אחד בבית יש ניאגרה מצופה במדבקות ונצנצים, מאוורר מצויר ומקרר מצופה מפיות פרחוניות. טביעת ידה של אמי מורגשת בכל פינה וכל פריט מקבל את התייחסותה.״
אמא שלי גדלה בקיבוץ ׳של פעם׳. האידיאולוגיה בקיבוץ דגלה בשוויון, אחידות, פשטות, צניעות והתבטאה בכל תחומי החיים ובלבוש בפרט.
לאסתטיקה לא הייתה משמעות וגנדרנות נחשבה אף מנקרת עיניים.
לעומת זאת, הבית בו אני גדלתי מאופיין באסתטיקה מקסימליסטית, פנטסטית, מרובת פרטים, קיטשית ואינה מתיימרת או מתנצלת.
בפרויקט עסקתי בפערים אלה- בין התכליתיות - לקישוטיות חסרת התכלית. בין צבעי הספיה - לצבעוניות הנועזת, בין השאיפה לאחידות - לריבוי הפרטים והעומס.
בקולקציה שאבתי השראה מגזרות ובדים של שנות ה50-60 של הקיבוץ- בדי כותנה וסריגים, משבצות ופסים וצבעי החאקי והספיה ומנגד- טקסטילים צבעוניים מרובי פרטים ושכבות, שילוב חומרים וטכניקות כגון רקמה, סריגה, קולאז׳ ושיבוץ אבנים.
