Shaked Katya Cohen // Out of the closet and in to the streets 

 

Queers and fashion are Intertwined. 

Through the way we dress we express our inner selves.

Fashion lets us change our shape or the way we are perceived. It lets us move between “feminine” and “masculine”, extroverted and introverted, revealed and obscured.

After all; It’s no coincidence they call it “coming out of the closet”. 

Queer fashion has always influenced global fashion but was regarded as 

“Avant-garde”, “performance” or “art”. 

We were used for inspiration but were not invited to reap the rewards. 

As the first trans Student to graduate from the department of fashion design at Shenkar it’s important for me to place trans and queer fashion at the center stage.

I seek to reclaim the fashion runway for the queer community while exploring the connective threads that link the styles and dress codes of different sectors in present day Tel Aviv queer community.
